"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." - Leo Buscaglia
Between last Thanksgiving and New Years, I did a good deed every day. Some took a lot of time, like getting the lost dog home, some took seconds, putting money into someone else's meter that had expired. Some were free and some cost money. Some days I had to really look hard for a good deed, other days they presented themselves clearly. Some I received lots of thanks for, some were done anonymously.
The one thing every good deed had in common was that it made me feel good. I love to help people. I love to be friendly. I love to feel a sense of purpose. Good deeds fulfilled all three of these.
A few weeks ago in a class, I decided to start doing one good deed a day again. I did it for about 8 days and stopped. I am starting again. I will do one good deed a day until Halloween (seems like as good a date as any...) that's 82 good deeds.
Research has shown over and over that two things bring people true happiness: being grateful and helping others.
Let's do both this week! Keep me posted on your progress.
Be who you WANT to be.
